What is a hollow metal door frame?
A hollow metal door frame is a steel frame formed from sheet steel to wrap the wall opening and carry the door. Imperial frames are 16 gauge A40 galvannealed steel, with 12 and 14 gauge available, in masonry and drywall profiles.
Should I order a knock-down or a welded frame?
Knock-down (KD) frames ship as two jambs and a header and assemble on site, which keeps freight compact. Welded frames ship set up and ready to install. We stock both, including pre-welded 3/0 x 7/0 masonry frames.
What is the difference between masonry and drywall frames?
Masonry frames are set as the block wall goes up and are held with strap anchors. They are fire rated up to 3 hours. Drywall frames wrap a finished stud wall, install after the drywall with compression anchors, and are rated up to 90 minutes.
How do I choose the right jamb depth?
Jamb depth is the overall width of the frame. The throat is the wall thickness it covers. A 5-3/4" masonry jamb, for example, has a 4-7/8" throat. Stock masonry depths run from 5-3/4" to 8-3/4".
