Commercial Exit Devices
Imperial USA supplies commercial exit devices for businesses, contractors, and distributors across the USA. Our exit device series includes economy panic bars, mid-grade and heavy duty Grade 1 options, narrow stile touch bars, and accessories — all meeting ANSI and UL safety standards for reliable emergency egress on commercial and institutional doors.
Rim, Vertical Rod and Mortise Exit Devices
A rim exit device mounts on the face of the door and latches into a strike on the frame, which makes it the simplest panic bar to install on a single door. Vertical rod exit devices latch at the top and bottom of the door, the common choice for pairs of doors without a center mullion. Mortise exit devices latch through a lock set into the edge of the door for heavy traffic openings. Imperial carries all three, from Grade 1 heavy duty panic bars to Grade 2 narrow stile touch bars for aluminum storefront doors.

Exit Device FAQ
What is a rim exit device?
A rim exit device, also called a rim panic bar, mounts on the face of the door and latches into a strike on the frame. It works on single doors and on pairs with a mullion. Imperial rim devices include the ED-501, ED-800, ED-901 and the narrow stile TH1100-STED.
Which exit device replaces a Von Duprin 99?
The ED-900 Series is built hole for hole to match Von Duprin 98/99 preps, so it installs in the existing holes. The ED-800 Series is also listed as a Von Duprin 99 equivalent in our catalog cross reference.
When do I need a vertical rod exit device?
Vertical rod devices latch at the top and bottom of the door. They are the usual choice for pairs of doors without a center mullion. Imperial offers surface vertical rods (ED-VR531, ED-VR831, ED-VR931) and a concealed vertical rod for aluminum doors (TH1100-STEDCVR).
Are your exit devices fire rated?
Yes. The ED-800 Series is UL 305 and UL10C certified for up to 3 hours, and fire rated models are available in the ED-500 (ED-F501, EDFVR531) and ED-900 (ED-F901) series.
What is dogging on a panic bar?
Dogging holds the latch retracted so the door works as a push and pull door during business hours. Dogging is standard on non fire rated devices. Fire rated doors must latch every time, so fire rated devices are supplied without dogging.
Which exit device fits an aluminum storefront door?
The STED Series narrow stile touch bar is made for narrow, medium and wide stile aluminum doors. It comes in 36" and 48" widths that can be cut to size and also fits 30" doors.
What does Grade 1 mean for an exit device?
ANSI/BHMA A156.3 rates exit devices by grade, and Grade 1 is the highest, built for heavy commercial use. The ED-500, ED-800 and ED-900 series are Grade 1. The STED narrow stile series is Grade 2.
